Apparently, Portishead came out with a new album, Third, back in April, which is their first album released in ten years. I just found out about it yesterday, and I’m pretty stoked. Third definitely diverges quite a bit from the music on their previous albums, but there is still a lot of good stuff in there. They are occasionally too experimental, for example, there is short section of the song, “Magic Doors”, where it sounds like they are strangling an elephant. Even after listening to the album, I thought I was listening to PJ Harvey when “We Carry On” randomly played as part of one of my playlists. I hope I don’t have to wait another ten years for their fourth album.
